It was built by Qian Chu, King of Wuyue, to enshrine the Buddha's hair relics and pray for peace and prosperity in the country. It was built in the second year of Taipingxingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (977), and has been rebuilt many times in successive dynasties. The existing building was designed based on the original Leifeng Pagoda and was rebuilt in 2002. It is one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake", one of the nine famous pagodas in China, and the first colored bronze pagoda in China.

  Qiandao Lake, also known as Xin'anjiang Reservoir, is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. A small part of it is connected to the northwest of Jiande City, Hangzhou City. It is an artificial lake formed to build the Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station to intercept and store the upper reaches of Xin'anjiang River. After the construction of Xin'anjiang Reservoir, the dam intercepted the upper reaches of Xin'anjiang River into a huge lake. The mountains and ridges were submerged in the lake to form large and small islands, a total of 1,078, hence the name "Qiandao Lake". Qiandao Lake is divided into six tourist areas: Southeast Lake Area, Central Lake Area, Northwest Lake Area, Southwest Lake Area, Northeast Lake Area, and Stone Forest Scenic Area.
