Because a well next to the temple was plagued by dragons, a large Buddha was built to suppress it, so it was renamed Dafo Temple in the first year of Taiqing (547). During the Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty (713-741), it was renamed Kaiyuan Temple. The temple was restored and rebuilt seven times, and was named Youmin Temple in the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929).
