Mt.Yuelu Scenic Area is one of the first scenic areas approved and announced by Hunan Province. Located on both sides of the Xiangjiang River in the ancient city of Changsha, it has a total area of 36 square kilometers and consists of four scenic areas: Lushan, Tianma Mountain, Taohualing, and Shijialing, as well as two scenic spots: the former site of the New Citizen Society and the city head of Nanjin City.

　　1. Reservation for admission

　　Mt.Yuelu Scenic Area needs to be booked in advance. You can make an appointment by searching the official WeChat applet "Mt.Yuelu Scenic Area Admission Reservation". The applet supports reservations for admission 2 days in advance. It is recommended to make an appointment in advance during the peak tourist season.

　　2. Climbing methods

　　There are four ways to climb Mt.Yuelu: cable car (25 yuan one way, close to the east gate), sightseeing bus (20 yuan), slide (35 yuan, close to the east gate, and only for going down the mountain) and hiking. The cable car is similar to an aerial cable car, and it takes about 20 minutes to go up or down the mountain one way. After the sightseeing bus enters the scenic area at the east gate and the south gate, there are stations for taking the sightseeing bus near the entrance. The end of the slide leads to the East Gate, and you can buy a cable car ticket from the top of the mountain to go down the mountain.

　　3. Tour route

　　Enter the scenic spots from the South Gate and you will not have to go back. The road from the East Gate is not very steep, and there are more people walking on the road. The specific tour route can be selected according to personal preferences and physical condition. For example, you can enter from the South Gate of Mt.Yuelu, passing Yuelu Academy-Aiwan Pavilion-Sheli Tower-Gulushan Temple-Sightseeing Corridor, Ancient Fort-Birds Forest-Yunlu Palace-Chuanshipo Lake-Xinhai Aidu Hanyang Cemetery-Mt.Yuelu East Gate. Or enter from the East Gate of Mt.Yuelu, take the cable car up the mountain, then visit the scenic spots on the top of the mountain, and finally go down the mountain from the South Gate.

　　4. Tour time

　　The opening hours of Mt.Yuelu will be adjusted according to seasonal changes. Generally speaking, May to October each year is the best time to visit. In particular, the end of November to the beginning of December each year is the best time to view the red leaves in Mt.Yuelu.

　　5. Notes

　　Mt.Yuelu is free of charge, but Yuelu Academy charges 50 yuan per person, with half the price for students and seniors aged 60-69. It is difficult to find a parking space when the maple leaves turn red. There are many tombs on the mountain, so it is best to have a companion when walking up the stone steps in the evening. If you are not very physically fit, you can choose to take the scenic shuttle bus or cable car.
