The Bund, located on the bank of the Huangpu River in Huangpu District of Shanghai, is a Chinese historical and cultural district. Since 1844 (the 24th year of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty), the area of the Bund was classified as the British concession, which became the true portrayal of Shanghai's Ten miles of foreign fields, and also the starting point of the old Shanghai Concession area and the whole modern city of Shanghai.
The Bund is 1.5 kilometers long, from Yan 'an East Road in the south to Waibadu Bridge on the Suzhou River in the north, the Huangpu River in the east, and the old Shanghai financial and foreign trade institutions in the west. After Shanghai was established as a commercial port, foreign banks, commercial houses, general associations and newspapers began to gather here, and the Bund became the financial center of the country and even the Far East. In August of the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943), the Bund returned the Shanghai Public concession to the Wang Puppet Nationalist Government, ending the century-long concession period, and having the official road name ZhongShandong First Road in the 34th year of the Republic of China (1945).
The Bund stands 52 classical revival buildings with different styles, known as the Bund International Architecture Exhibition Group, is an important historical site and representative architecture in modern China, one of the landmarks of Shanghai, in November 1996, The State Council of the People's Republic of China listed it in the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
