The Shanghai Museum is a large museum of ancient Chinese art. It was founded in 1952 and fully completed and opened on October 12, 1996. Its collection, research, exhibition and education focus on ancient Chinese art.
1. Introduction
The Shanghai Museum's collection of cultural relics includes 31 categories, including bronze, ceramics, calligraphy and painting, sculpture, oracle bones, talismans, currency, jade, furniture, weaving and embroidery, lacquerware, bamboo, wood, ivory and horns, and ethnic minority cultural relics, especially bronze, ceramics, calligraphy and painting. There are nearly 1.02 million cultural relics in the collection, including more than 140,000 precious cultural relics. The Shanghai Museum currently has ten art exhibition halls, four cultural relics donation rooms and three special exhibition halls, focusing on reflecting the complete development history of various art categories. The plane layout is divided into 6 areas, including the open area, warehouse area, and academic area. The complete system, rich collections and exquisite quality enjoy a high reputation both at home and abroad.
2. Opening hours
The Shanghai Museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed all day on Monday (except national holidays).
3. Exhibition information
The exhibitions at the Shanghai Museum are divided into permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. Permanent exhibitions include the Ancient Chinese Bronze Museum, the Ancient Chinese Ceramics Museum, the Chinese Calligraphy Museum, the Chinese Painting Museum, etc. Temporary exhibitions will change themes from time to time to display different types of cultural relics and artworks.
4. Visiting Guide
First floor exhibition hall: The first floor exhibition hall has two special exhibitions, the Ancient Chinese Bronze Museum and the Ancient Chinese Sculpture Museum. Bronze ware is an important symbol of ancient social civilization.
Second floor exhibition hall: The second floor exhibition hall is the Ancient Chinese Ceramics Museum, the Zande Building Ceramics Museum and the exhibition hall, which display various ceramic utensils from ancient times to the present.
Third floor exhibition hall: The third floor exhibition hall is the Chinese Calligraphy Museum, the Chinese Painting Museum, and the Chinese Seal Museum, which brings together calligraphy, painting and seal works from various periods.
The fourth floor exhibition hall: The fourth floor exhibition hall is the Chinese Ancient Jade Museum, the Chinese Coin Museum, the Chinese Ming and Qing Furniture Museum, the Chinese Minority Crafts Museum and the exhibition hall, which show the charm of ancient Chinese jade, coins, furniture and minority crafts.

The Shanghai Museum is located at No. 201 Renmin Avenue, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Visitors can take Metro Line 1, Line 2, and Line 8 to People's Square Station, or take a bus to People's Square Station.
