Here you can also learn about the development and changes of Wuhan over thousands of years. The museum has a display area of 6,000 square meters and a total of three floors. There are three exhibition halls on the first floor, which respectively display the collection of cultural relics from past dynasties, the display of ancient ceramic art, and the display of calligraphy and painting art from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Precious cultural relics such as bronzes, jades, bamboo and wood ivory carvings, inkstones, seal art, snuff bottles, enamels, and the essence of calligraphy and painting works from the Ming and Qing Dynasties can all be seen here. The second floor of the museum is the display of Wuhan's ancient history, which consists of five parts: the dawn of the Yangtze and Han Rivers (prehistoric period), the charm of the Shang Dynasty and Chu (Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties), the key military hub (Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties), the dual cities of land and water (Sui, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties), and the thoroughfare of nine provinces (from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to before the opening of Hankou in modern times). The third floor is the exhibition of Wuhan's modern history, which consists of three parts: the rise of the Yangtze and Han Rivers, the metropolis of Central China, and rebirth from the ashes. Here, you can learn more about the development and changes of Wuhan, the river city, through a series of historical materials.
